About
Active Community: A Social Group for Self-Improvement and Community Transformation
Active Community is a social group that uses motivation and morality to help individuals and communities achieve optimal outcomes in health, prosperity, and education.
Active Community helps people achieve optimal outcomes in their lives by focusing on three functional areas and three subject areas. These areas are interrelated and mutually reinforcing, creating a positive feedback loop for self-improvement. The following two diagrams illustrate the six key concepts of Active Community.
The first diagram shows the three functional areas that drive self-improvement: social engagement, morality, and motivation. These are the core values and principles that guide our actions and decisions.
The second diagram shows the three subject areas that we can improve in: health, prosperity, and education. These are the most important domains that affect our quality of life and well-being.
How It Works
Typically, Active Community Groups meet every two weeks. In addition to the main Active Community meeting, participation in one or more Personal Development Groups is encouraged.
Active Community Group meetings are where we learn new skills and strategies to improve ourselves and our communities.
Personal Development Groups are optional groups that focus on specific areas of improvement. For example, there might be a Personal Development Group related to fitness, entrepreneurship, or student success.
Personal Development Groups are created and operate independently of Active Community Groups. Personal Development Groups can be existing community groups, such as 12-step programs and support groups, or can be started as a type of Social Learning Group. Social Learning Groups can also be used to achieve educational goals. For more information see our separate website on Social Learning Groups.

Three Functional Areas
Active Community focuses on three functional areas that drive self-improvement: social engagement, morality, and motivation. These are the driving forces that influence our actions and outcomes.
Social
Active Community is not only a movement for self-improvement and community transformation. It is also a social group that fosters social engagement among its members. Social engagement is the degree to which we interact with others in positive and meaningful ways. Social engagement is important because it affects our happiness, health, and well-being.
Being socially engaged is good for our physical and mental well-being. It helps us feel connected, supported, and valued by others. It also exposes us to different perspectives and values, which can enhance our moral awareness and behavior. Moreover, being part of a social group can boost our motivation to achieve our goals, as we can share our successes and challenges, learn from others, and receive feedback and encouragement.
Some of the benefits of social engagement are:
Increased happiness: Social engagement can boost our mood, reduce our stress, and increase our satisfaction with life. Studies have shown that people who have strong social ties are happier than those who do not .
Improved health: Social engagement can enhance our immune system, lower our blood pressure, and decrease our risk of chronic diseases. Studies have shown that people who have strong social ties are healthier than those who do not .
Enhanced well-being: Social engagement can provide us with support, encouragement, and feedback. It can also help us cope with challenges, achieve our goals, and grow as individuals. Studies have shown that people who have strong social ties have higher levels of well-being than those who do not.
Some of the ways Active Community promotes social engagement are:
Active Community meetings: These are regular meetings where we learn new skills and strategies to improve ourselves and our communities. Active Community Group meetings are a great way to meet new people, make new friends, and expand your network.
Personal Development Groups: These are optional groups that focus on specific areas of improvement. For example, there might be an Personal Development Group for fitness, entrepreneurship, or student success. Personal Development Groups are a great way to interact with others who share your interests or goals. We can also learn from each other and support each other in achieving our goals.
Fun and meaningful activities: These are activities that we organize or participate in with other members of Active Community. These might include social events, recreational activities, volunteer work, and public service. Fun and meaningful activities are a great way to have fun and enjoy life with others. They are also a great way to contribute to making our community a better place for everyone.
Morality
Moral actions are those that lead to optimal outcomes for ourselves and others. By acting morally, we can improve our relationships with other people, as they will respect and trust us more. This can increase our social opportunities and satisfaction. Furthermore, by framing our actions as moral obligations, we can increase our motivation to follow through with them, as we will feel a stronger sense of duty and commitment.
Motivation
Motivation is the key to any kind of self-improvement, as it drives us to pursue our goals and overcome obstacles. Motivation can also improve our moral character, as it requires effort and discipline to act in accordance with our values and principles. Additionally, motivation can enhance our social skills, as it enables us to overcome fears and insecurities that may prevent us from interacting with others.
